The 11 January 2010 marks the day the US court placed an injunction on Microsoft forbidding the sale of Microsoft Word (office 2003 and 2007). The initial injunction was ordered in August 2009 but CNET and ComputerWorld claim that most versions of Microsoft Office were unavailable from their online store. The standard version of Office 2003 is still available and the professional version should be available to subscribers soon.
The injunction stems from an i4i Inc lawsuit who claimed that Microsoft used its patented XML technology in their current version of Microsoft word. Since August, Microsoft has been trying to remove the XML feature. Microsoft stated that they are trying to bring their systems into compliance with the US court ruling and some product download options will be unavailable during this process.
